Koufuku
御菓子司 幸福屋
Koufuku offers a range of mochi sweets, including sansho mochi, mame mochi and daifuku. We look at the contrasting textures of an-koro mochi and kuzu-zakura, as well as one customer’s choice of coffee daifuku.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
For a treat centred on mochi sweets, consider one with the fragrant kick of sansho pepper amid its sweetness. Koufuku sells sansho mochi alongside tea dumplings, mame mochi and various kinds of daifuku. One customer who bought several items found their textures simple and satisfying, with a pronounced sweetness. The sansho mochi stood out in particular: its peppery bite, they said, brought the sweetness into focus. Pair familiar mochi sweets with something more aromatic for a selection that suits your tastes.
One customer who chose an-koro mochi and kuzu-zakura as souvenirs found the an-koro mochi not too sweet, making it just right when a sweet treat was in order. The kuzu-zakura, meanwhile, had a pleasantly springy, chewy texture, rather than the soft, almost melting quality some versions have. Together, the two make an appealing contrast: one to savour for its sweet bean paste, the other for its distinctive texture.
Customers have also bought classics such as kashiwa mochi and mame daifuku. One person who tried the coffee daifuku said its coffee flavour came through clearly. It could be a good choice when you fancy a daifuku with a slightly different character.
One customer appreciated being able to browse the sweets on display and choose according to the day’s mood. The shop indicates that it accepts cash only, so it is worth having some on hand.
